How good hospital interior can help overall patient’s health?
July 31, 2021Tips for Clinic Set Up – Planning & Designing
August 23, 2021Developing healthcare medical chains with COVID incorporated setups for the future is challenging but also extremely vital given the scale & the rate of the crisis and the best response for such cases only remains is to stay prepared in advance when such crisis hit.
The pandemic has taught us enough lessons to understand why we need to stay prepared for such crisis specially when the entire world has its focus on overcoming coronavirus and that it has been termed as the most challenging crisis post World War-II. Moreover COVID-19 has been one of the biggest challenges that the world of medicine & healthcare has had to face literally putting the entire system upside down and has helped us realize that the traditional way of planning hospitals & healthcare systems doesn’t do enough to prepare for a pandemic.
The response to COVID-19 is a huge example of what all does the future of healthcare needs to incorporate, starting from new models of healthcare that are set against a backdrop of an ancient health building infrastructure that is ill-suited to meet the demands of a growing population, a changing workforce and new technologies, if it hadn’t been for the lockdowns & social distancing norms the healthcare systems would have collapsed considering the capacity with which the outbreak had elevated.
Here’s what the designing of future healthcare infrastructures must incorporate along with customisation in the current medical facilities:
1. Increasing Isolation Room Capacity:
One the primary issues that the healthcare system had to face was integrating all the patients which led to converting workplaces & hotels into isolation units.
Hence, hospitals will need large number of rooms, units & wings that are separate from the main hospital so that the other part of the hospital its patients & staff aren’t under the risk of infection.
Greater Supply Chain:
With increased capacity of patients also comes the need of increased amount of equipment’s & key supplies to avoid the horror of falling short of supplies under medication & treatment health systems need to have more than one source of supply.
2. Re-evaluating the design of waiting rooms:
The ideal waiting rooms then were considered to be the one which could accommodate the maximum number of people in a limited area but not any more considering the social distancing norms the new waiting rooms must be designed keeping the terms of social distancing in mind to prevent infections. Instead waiting in cars or only patients allowed in the hospital facility rule can be applied to prevent any risk at all.
Re-think the entry & exists of the premises:
With the set-up of Covid unit it’s also important to keep the entries & exits separate from the other units of the hospital. Right from the point the patient enters the facility to the point he/she is leaves there’s must be no contact to other units of the hospital. The entries & exists could primarily be the new hotspots if not separated hence multiple entries & exists are mandatory.
3. Re-consider your staff safety-
The doctors and staff that treat the infected patients should at all times maintain a safe distance from other speciality doctors possibly at all times & their space should be limited to sharing. The fundamental of common waiting & changing rooms for doctors must be reformed considering their safety.
Proper set-up to carry out tele medicine successfully-
Telemedicine has been quite the saviour in these difficult times, the growth of phone and video consultation has helped free up space in the hospitals & on the same hand assured safety but at same hand to carry out these telephonic appointments successfully a separate space must be available so that doctors can safely, peacefully & successfully provide the same level of help as they did in person. Re-inventing the entire landscape of hospitals is the need of the hour, these changes are necessary for dealing with future pandemics real- time.
